I use the applications found on my System 7.5.5 drive and partition images, and the Apple CDs for many of the guides found on this site.

I only provide minimal bootable images for Systems 3.2, 4.1, 5.1, 6.0.8, 6.0.8L, 6.0.8P and 7.5.5, but I’m adding guides to my site for how you can install full versions of these and other versions up to System 8.1 using Apple’s Legacy Software Recovery CD and other sources on the internet. If you’ve never used my bootable images, or don’t know the difference between a drive image or volume image them I suggest you read the rest of the page below before trying to use these files.

If you have any question, feel free to ask. This page contains a list of all the files that can be downloaded from my site for use with 68k Macintosh systems, specifically the bootable image files I’ve created for use with emulators, the SCSI2SD, the MacSD, the FloppyEMU, Zipdrives, Jaz Drives, Floppy drives and CDROM drives. One of them is “About this computer…” item in Apple menu. Please note that there are many things that can crash the emulator and you will have to start with new disk again.

After that your virtual mac (with color support) is installed.

When emulator will close run “BasiliskIIGUI.exe” and remove the Mac OS 7 ISO file.

Now shut down the system (do not restart it). When the install is complete the dialog box will open. Click on “Agree.” Now just wait a bit for system to copy all files.

I’ll click on “Start” to skip this for now. The installer will ask you to select what you want to install. Click the button next to “Install the software.” Now click “Install Now” to continue. Then select “Mac HD” in “Destination Disk:” field. Click on button with disk icon next to the “Choose a disk for installation.” After that the folder with icons will show up.

Then click on “Continue” to confirm initialization. The first thing you will have to do is to intialize the hard disk. Leave other tabs as they are for now and click “Start.” Select file labeled as “Mac OS ROM” and tick the checkbox “Ignore Illegal Memory Accesses” to avoid “sad mac” error on boot-up. Now click on “Browse” button next to the “ROM File” text field. You can change resolution too (for the rest of this guide I will use 640×480 because of smaller file size). Now change “Window Refresh Rate” to Dynamic otherwise your virtual mac will be very slow. After you added disk images navigate to “Graphics/Sound” tab. Then click on “Add…” again and select blank disk image. Click “Add…” and select your Mac OS 7 ISO file. Please note that closing this window runs the emulator so press “Quit” if you want to close it instead of clicking on “X”

After you did that run “BasiliskIIGUI.exe.” You will see something like this: Now you have everything we need.įirst unpack all files to folder “BasiliskII” and install GTK+ runtime. You will have to create new disk image too. Please note that System 6 Hard Disk image that you may created earlier won’t work on Basilisk II.
